You like riding your bike, but at times it doesn’t seem to like you when you experience:

  • Numbness / Tingling
  • Painful Joints
  • Injury

Fortunately, these issues can likely be mitigated with a bike fit, which is a strategic sequence of bike adjustments to optimally fit you to your bike.

Not only are those aches and pains reduced or completely eliminated, but you transition to a more comfortable ride and ultimately to better performance with greater strength and efficiency.

It’s also important to recognize the following factors which potentially limit the value of a bike fit.

  • Poor flexibility and/or strength
  • Poor diet or food sensitivity
  • Inadequate food/energy source, hydration, and electrolytes during ride
  • Anatomical differences between left side and right side of body; for example, one leg is longer than the other leg
  • Previous injuries: Limited joint flexibility, muscle or skeleton imbalances
  • Clothing: Poor or inadequate padding in shorts and gloves, and poor foot support
    • Poor riding technique
    • Tight grip on handlebars
    • Shoulders rolled forward / hunched over
    • Straight arms (maintain bend in elbows)
    • Riding in too high of a gear, creating additional forces on body joints

Bike Fit Process

Below are the high-level steps of a bike fit to give you an idea on what to expect:

1)Bike is attached to a stationary trainer.
2)Joint angles are measured using video analysis software while the person is riding their bike.
3)Bike components (e.g. seat) are adjusted to obtain joint angle within desired range.
4)A report is completed to summarize bike fit results.
5)Body adapts to bike adjustments during initial rides after bike fit.

Changes may include:

  • Cleat position to optimally position foot on pedal
  • Shoe insoles for foot support / stability
  • Joint angles; obtained by changing the following:
    • Height, Forward / Rearward Location (i.e. Setback), and Tilt
    • Handlebar and Hood Location
    • Stem Length and Angle

It seems like there was always an inclination for mechanical things.  At the earliest age enjoying erector sets to tearing apart gas engines and meticulously cleaning the parts as a teenager (for no other reason than it was a part of a machine), there’s been an affinity for mechanical devices.

That interest transitioned to becoming an auto mechanic after completing vocational training and then obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.  The degree led me to a career with the Boeing Company that spanned 30 years as a Manufacturing Engineer, which included obtaining a (Boeing designated) Six Sigma Black Belt where I found the analytical / statistical methodology and tools very interesting.

Drawing on my past background, DynaFit was born as an opportunity to help people achieve a more safe and enjoyable bike riding experience.  Pardon the pun, but it just seemed like the perfect fit.

When not bike fitting, I enjoy both road cycling and mountain biking.

A good bike fit starts with a good bike size !
You know it’s a great ride when the bike is dirty.
